The West Laboratory began in July 2010 as a regenerative medicine and stem cell laboratory that focuses on germ (sperm and egg) cell differentiation from human and pig embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells. Abnormal germ cell development has been linked to infertility and numerous diseases including Down’s and Klinefelter’s. The ongoing studies in the lab focus on the mechanisms that cause these conditions to one day discover cures and preventative treatments.
