Joshua Tolson

M.S. Student

Joshua is a master’s student in the Interdisciplinary Toxicology Program studying regenerative rehabilitation to restore function and metabolic flexibility in volumetric muscle loss (VML).

Joshua’s work is focused on addressing the effects of whole body metabolic challenges that are associated with volumetric muscle loss (VML). VML is defined as the irrecoverable loss of skeletal muscle tissue with associated persistent functional deficits. VML is a common condition in civilian and military populations due to car accidents and blast injuries with muscle tissue having limited regeneration potential. His research focuses on the ability of a small molecule therapeutic to correct underlying muscle pathophysiology, both alone, and in combination with a structured treadmill walking paradigm in a translational VML model.

Joshua graduated with a BSA in Animal Science and a minor in Chemistry from Berry College in May 2025. In his free time, Joshua loves exploring what the world has to offer.
